One can find some people who become disturbed on hearing something, so when an Imaam recites aloud, the person cannot recite Soorah Al-Faatihah at the same time. The ruling for such a person is like that for a person who is unable to recite. This is like some people say, ‘When I pray with an Imaam who hurries in his recitation, I am unable to recite Soorah Al-Faatihah behind him.’ We then respond, “The ruling for you is like that for a person who has joined the prayer late, and your prayer is valid.” However, if an Imaam recites aloud, and a person who is able to recite behind him, in his case, the recitation is regarded as a pillar of prayer.
