The Qur’aan is unique for its inimitability and preservation. Our Book is preserved and Allaah Himself is in charge of its preservation until the time it is raised from the bosoms, while the Scriptures of previous people, they were charged with preserving them, and they did not do so. There is a story from the judge Yahyaa ibn Aktham ,who narrates it from a Jew with nice garments, and pleasant face and scent. He spoke and soke good words and expressions. Yahyaa said when the gathering was concluding, Al-Ma’moon called him over asking, “Israa’eelite?” The man replied, ‘Yes!’ AL-Ma’moon said to him, “Embrace Islaam and I will do such-and-such for you!” and he made him promises. The man replied, ‘I am on the religion of mine and my forefathers!’ and then departed. A year later, the man returned as a Muslim. The man spoke about jurisprudence, and he spoke well. When the meeting was concluding, Al-Ma’moon called him over asking, “Are you not our friend of before?” The man replied, ‘But yes!’ Al-Ma’moon asked, “What was the reason for your accepting Islaam?” The man replied, ‘I departed from your company, and I wanted to test these religions. With the good handwriting I have, I wrote three copies of the Torah, and I made some additions and omissions, and I took them to the synagogue, and they bought it off me. I then turned to the Bible and I wrote three copies of it, and I made some additions and omissions. I took them to the monastery and they bought it off me. I then turned to the Qur’aan and I wrote three copies of it, and I made some additions and omissions. I took them to the scribes and they leafed through them, and when they found that there was addition or omission in them, they threw them away and did not buy them. Thus, I came to know that this Book is preserved and that was the reason I accepted Islaam. Yahyaa ibn Aktham said, “I performed pilgrimage that year and met Sufyaan ibn ‘Uyaynah, and I mentioned the story to him. He said to me, ‘This is verified by the Book of Allaah !’” Yahyaa said, “I said, In which place? He replied, ‘In the Words of Allaah about the Torah and Bible,
{بِمَا ٱسْتُحْفِظُوا۟ مِن كِتَـٰبِ ٱللَّه}
“… by that with which they were entrusted of the Scripture of Allaah…” (Al-Maai’dah 44),
so He entrusted them with preserving it and then it was lost. Allaah said,
{إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَـٰفِظُون}
“Indeed, it is We who sent down the Message, and indeed, We will be its Guardian.” (Al-Hijr, 9)
and Allaah preserved it for us and it was not be lost. (see: Dalaai’l AN-Nubuwwah, Proofs of Prophethood, by Al-Bayhaqy 7:159)
